Beer lovers from around the country (and world) are starting
to discover that “San Diego is Brewing”. San Diego is brewing some of the best,
most innovative craft beers that feature the distinctive “west coast style”
renowned for eclectic-creativity and the generous and distinctive use of hops,
grains, spices and other natural flavors.
About a year ago—I was out-of-town enjoying a Stone IPA in a
pub with several friends. There was a lively conversation going on between my
friends and other patrons. Everyone was singing the praises of the pints they
had chosen that evening. After a time—I realized they were all talking about
San Diego beers. I heard names like Wipeout, Double Bastard, Horny Devil and
Big Eye. In a moment of stark realization—it dawned on me that something
special was going on in the San Diego brewing community.
While that's not a revelation to many locals—I think beer
lovers outside of San Diego would be surprised to know just how many great
local breweries there are. And it's not just the number of breweries that make
San Diego special—it's also the quality and creativity that has blossomed in
the local brewing community. San Diego brewers truly love what they do and
aren't afraid to think outside the box and break tradition—resulting in some of
the most unique beers in the world.
So, being in the travel business, I realized travelers had
another reason to visit an already great destination—craft beers! Where else
can you find year-round sunny weather, 70 miles of soft-sandy beaches,
world-class theme parks and attractions, a burgeoning foodie scene, ocean
activities, downtown nightlife and culture and some of the best craft beer in
the world?
San Diego is Brewing will strive to connect visitors to
positive, healthy, socially-conscious events and activities where they can
enjoy fresh, locally-brewed beer. We will feature food-pairings from local
restaurants, taps and cask openings especially relevant and accessible to
travelers along with other opportunities to enjoy local brews. We will show
visitors ways to plan their vacations so local beers are safe and convenient to
enjoy. We recognize that beer is meant to be enjoyed and appreciated—not simply
guzzled.
